AVID Speaker's Bureau - Home

This resource is a joint project between LBUSD and Leadership Long Beach to assist Long Beach Unified School teachers with the creation of a one-stop shop, secure, user-friendly and accessible speaker’s bureau database utilizing one of Long Beach’s greatest assets – its people.

Teachers who oversee college preparatory programs such as AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) and GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) are responsible for finding guest speakers from the community to come speak to their students about their professional and life experiences. Consequently, some schools get a lot of speakers, others do not. This resource provides a central location for teachers to have equal access to a guest speaker listing that is accessible via this database.  There are also sample forms of various types that can be downloaded and used by the schools.

Class members will continue to enhance the speaker’s database in the coming months by following up with Leadership Long Beach alumni to determine their interest in becoming a speaker. If you wish to include a speaker in the database, there is a form under Teacher Resources that can be downloaded, completed and sent to pdavis@lbschools.net.
