Beginning teachers with a 2042 preliminary credential are expected to participate in a 2-year state approved induction program ideally during their first years as a contracted teacher in order to complete the state’s requirements to earn a professional clear credential.
Long Beach Unified School District has an approved induction Program and services beginning teachers from in and around the Long Beach area. The district program offers two similar routes to a clear credential. The Traditional BTSA Program enrolls contracted teachers employed by LBUSD and full-time teachers from surrounding charter and private schools. The newly established and grant-funded pilot Alternative Induction Pathway (AIP) enrolls laid-off LBUSD teachers,
LBUSD day-to-day substitutes, and recent graduates from CSULB. The two programs run seamlessly intertwined. Both groups of teachers adhere to the same state requirements to earn a professional clear credential.
